Stesichorus

c. 630–555 BCE · 6th century BCE

Stesichorus was a Greek lyric poet of the late 7th and 6th centuries BCE, associated with Himera in Sicily. He composed long narrative poems on myths such as the Trojan War, Heracles and Geryon, and the story of Helen, which influenced later epic and tragedy. Only fragments survive, some recovered from papyri found at Oxyrhynchus.
