c. 359–408 · 4th century · Also known as Flavius Stilicho

Flavius Stilicho (c. 359–408) was a Roman general of Vandal descent who effectively governed the western empire for the young emperor Honorius from 395. He fought the Visigoths of Alaric in Greece and Italy, defeated the invasion of Radagaisus in 406 and kept the Frankish kings on the Rhine in check, sending Marcomer into exile. Accused of treason, he was executed at Ravenna in 408.
