Honorius

384–423 CE · 5th century

Honorius was Roman emperor in the West from 395 CE, the son of Theodosius I. On his father's death the empire was divided between Honorius in the West and his brother Arcadius in the East, and it was never reunited. This division marks the emergence of the eastern half as the distinct state later known as the Byzantine Empire.
