Honshu
Honshu is the largest of the islands of Japan and the seventh-largest island in the world. It holds most of the country's population and its historic centres, including Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Tokyo. Its northern end, facing Hokkaido across the Tsugaru Strait, was home to Emishi and Ainu peoples before the expansion of the Japanese state.
