Koshamain

d. 1457 · 15th century

Koshamain was an Ainu chief who led an uprising against Japanese traders and settlers in southern Hokkaido in 1457, after a Japanese smith killed an Ainu youth in a quarrel. His forces took most of the Japanese strongholds on the Oshima Peninsula before Takeda Nobuhiro, founder of the line of the later Matsumae clan, killed him.
