Strattis of Chios

6th–5th century BCE · 5th century BCE

Strattis was the tyrant of Chios under Persian rule. Herodotus lists him among the Ionian tyrants who guarded the bridge over the Danube during Darius I's Scythian campaign around 513 BCE and kept it intact for the king's return. In 479 BCE a plot by seven Chians to kill him was betrayed, and the conspirators fled to the Greek fleet.
