Suniti Devi

1864–1932 · 20th century

Suniti Devi was Maharani of Cooch Behar, the daughter of the reformer Keshab Chandra Sen and wife of Maharaja Nripendra Narayan, whom she married in 1878. Her marriage, contrary to her father's campaign against child marriage, divided the Brahmo Samaj. She worked for women's education, founding a girls' school in Cooch Behar.
