Sunni Baru
Sunni Baru was the last ruler of the Sunni dynasty of Songhai, succeeding his father Sunni Ali in 1492. He reportedly refused to profess Islam publicly, which alienated the Muslim scholars and merchants of the towns, and in April 1493 he was defeated near Gao by his father's general Muhammad Ture, who seized the throne as Askia Muhammad and founded the Askia dynasty.
