Sydney
Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and the largest city in Australia, on Port Jackson on the south-east coast. It grew from the penal settlement founded at Sydney Cove by the First Fleet under Arthur Phillip in January 1788, the first British colony in Australia. It became a major port and commercial centre and now has more than 5 million inhabitants.
