Sylvester Patent

1851 · 19th century · Also known as Sylvester Patents

The Sylvester Patent was a set of decrees issued by Emperor Franz Joseph I on New Year's Eve, 31 December 1851, which revoked the Austrian constitution of March 1849 while keeping the abolition of peasant servitude and equality before the law. It opened the period of neo-absolutism associated with Alexander von Bach.
