Syme

Also known as Symi

Syme (Symi) is a small, rocky Greek island in the Dodecanese, north of Rhodes and close to the coast of Turkey. In the Hellenistic period it belonged to the Rhodian state. Later famous for sponge-diving and shipbuilding, it passed under Ottoman and then Italian rule, and in 1945 the surrender of the German forces in the Dodecanese was signed there.
