Tabora

Tabora is a city in west-central Tanzania, in the land of the Nyamwezi. It grew from the 1840s around a settlement of Arab and Swahili merchants in the chiefdom of Unyanyembe, becoming the chief inland depot of the caravan trade in ivory and slaves between the coast and Lake Tanganyika. Explorers such as Burton, Speke, Livingstone and Stanley passed through, and under German rule it became an administrative centre and a station on the Central Railway.
