Tahirid dynasty

Also known as Tahirids

The Tahirid dynasty was a line of governors who ruled Khurasan in the ninth century, founded by Tahir ibn Husayn, a general of the Abbasid caliph al-Ma'mun. Although they acknowledged Abbasid authority, the Tahirids governed with considerable hereditary autonomy. Accounts of the Abbasid Caliphate list them among the successor dynasties to which military and political power devolved in the eastern provinces.
