Buyid dynasty
The Buyid dynasty was a Shia Iranian dynasty from Daylam that controlled much of Iran and Iraq in the tenth and eleventh centuries. After taking Baghdad in 945, the Buyids ruled while keeping the Abbasid caliphs as figureheads. They were displaced by the Seljuk Turks, whose leader Tughril Beg entered Baghdad in 1055, a key step in the rise of the Seljuk Empire.
