Tawûsî Melek
Tawûsî Melek, the Peacock Angel, is one of the central figures of Yazidism. In Yazidi creation stories God, before creating this world, created seven Divine Beings, also called the Seven Angels, and appointed Tawûsî Melek as their leader; as Lord of this World he is responsible for all that happens in it, good and bad. Yazidis hold him to be an emanation of God and not a fallen angel, and believe that Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir was his incarnation; the peacock is his symbol and a sacred bird. Muslims and followers of other Abrahamic religions have erroneously identified him with Satan, a misconception that incited centuries of violent persecution of the Yazidis as devil-worshippers.
