Tepelenë

Also known as Tepelena

Tepelenë is a town in southern Albania on the Vjosa river, in Gjirokastër County. It was the birthplace and family seat of Ali Pasha, who ruled much of the western Balkans from Ioannina and rebuilt its castle. Lord Byron visited him there in 1809 and described the visit in his poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.
