The Bund
The Bund is the waterfront promenade along the west bank of the Huangpu River in central Shanghai. Laid out from 1845 as the river frontage of the British settlement, it became lined with the banks, trading houses, hotels and consulates of the foreign community, many in grand neoclassical and Art Deco buildings of the 1920s and 1930s. It remains the city's best-known landmark.
