Theognis of Megara

6th century BCE · 6th century BCE

Theognis of Megara was a Greek elegiac poet of the sixth century BCE. A collection of about 1,400 lines survives under his name, though much of it is by other poets. Addressed largely to a young man named Cyrnus, the poems give moral advice and voice the bitterness of an aristocrat facing social change and the rise of new wealth.
