Thiksey Monastery
Thiksey Monastery is a Gelug Buddhist monastery on a hilltop about 19 km east of Leh in Ladakh, India. Founded in the 15th century, its tiers of white buildings rising up the hill resemble the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It houses a large statue of Maitreya made in the 1970s, as well as many stupas, thangkas and wall paintings.
