Thimphu
Thimphu is the capital and largest city of Bhutan, in the valley of the Wang Chhu in the west of the country. It grew around Tashichho Dzong, the fortress-monastery that houses the throne room, government offices and the central monk body, and was made the permanent capital under King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck in the 1950s and 1960s, replacing the old winter capital at Punakha.
