Thomas Müntzer (c. 1489–1525) was a radical German preacher of the Reformation who broke with Martin Luther and preached that the godly must bring in God's kingdom by force. At Mühlhausen in Thuringia he helped set up a new city council and joined the Peasants' War of 1525. His peasant army was crushed at Frankenhausen in May 1525, and he was captured and executed.
