Thorn, Netherlands

Thorn is a small town in the province of Limburg in the south-eastern Netherlands, near the Meuse. From about 990 until 1794 it was ruled by the princess-abbesses of Thorn Abbey, a foundation for noble ladies, as a tiny imperial territory. Known as the white town for its whitewashed houses, it keeps the former abbey church.
