Three Gorges

The Three Gorges are the narrow, steep-sided canyons of the Yangtze River between Fengjie in Chongqing and Yichang in Hubei: the Qutang, Wu and Xiling gorges. For centuries they were the main route between Sichuan and the middle Yangtze, and controlled access to the lands of the ancient Ba people. The Three Gorges Dam, completed in the 2000s, flooded much of the gorges.
