Tiaret
Tiaret is a city on the high plateaus of north-western Algeria. Nearby stood Tahert, founded in the 8th century by Abd al-Rahman ibn Rustam as the capital of the Ibadi Rustamid imamate, a centre of trade and learning until the Fatimids destroyed it in 909. The Djedars, royal Berber tombs of the 5th to 7th centuries, stand in the surrounding hills.
