Kairouan
Kairouan is a city in present-day Tunisia, founded in the seventh century as an early Arab Muslim centre and a seat of religious learning. Around 1040 CE the Gudala chieftain Yahya ibn Ibrahim met the jurist Abu Imran al-Fasi there. This meeting led to the mission of Abdallah ibn Yasin and the foundation of the Almoravid Empire.
