Person
Yahya ibn Ibrahim
Yahya ibn Ibrahim was a chief of the Gudala, a Sanhaja Berber group of the western Sahara, in the eleventh century. Returning from pilgrimage to Mecca around 1040, he met the jurist Abu Imran al-Fasi in Kairouan, a contact that led to the scholar Abd Allah ibn Yasin being sent to teach his people a stricter form of Maliki Islam. Accounts of the Almoravid Empire treat this mission as the origin of the Almoravid movement.
