Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a rocky promontory at the southern tip of Iberia, commanding the strait between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The Almoravid Empire crossed the Strait of Gibraltar in 1086 to intervene in al-Andalus, and Britain gained Gibraltar through the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, holding it as a strategic base of the British Empire.
