Tissamaharama is a town in Hambantota District in southern Sri Lanka, identified with Mahagama, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Ruhuna. The chronicles say it was founded by Mahanaga in the 3rd century BCE, and excavations have revealed an early urban settlement. The great Tissamaharama stupa and the Tissa Wewa reservoir survive from its early history.
