Tonalá River
The Tonalá River is a river of south-eastern Mexico that forms part of the border between the states of Veracruz and Tabasco before flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. Its lower course runs through coastal marshes, where the Olmec centre of La Venta stood on an island of higher ground from about 900 BCE.
