Treaty of Stadtilm

1599 · 16th century

The Treaty of Stadtilm of 1599 divided the lands of the counts of Schwarzburg in Thuringia between the brothers of the late Count Günther XLI. It created the lines of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, each holding parts of the Upper and Lower Lordships. The two branches were raised to princely rank in 1710 and 1697 respectively and ruled separate states until 1918.
