House of Wettin

The House of Wettin was a German dynasty that ruled Saxony. Two of its members, Augustus II and Augustus III, were elected kings of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the eighteenth century. Their reigns, during which Russia exercised strong influence over the Commonwealth, are associated with its decline.
