House of Welf
The House of Welf, or Guelph, is a European dynasty of Swabian and Bavarian origin. Its members included the dukes Henry the Proud and Henry the Lion, whose rivalry with the Hohenstaufen gave the Guelph name to a party in Italy, and Emperor Otto IV. From Henry the Lion descended the dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg and the electors and kings of Hanover, who ruled Britain from 1714 to 1837.
