Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975
The Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975 was a New Zealand law that created the Waitangi Tribunal to hear Māori claims that the Crown had breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. At first limited to claims arising after 1975, its scope was extended by an amendment in 1985 back to 1840. The tribunal's reports underpinned the major Treaty settlements of the following decades.
