Tsang
Tsang is a historical region of west-central Tibet along the Yarlung Tsangpo river, with Shigatse and Gyantse as its main towns. Together with Ü to the east it formed the heartland of central Tibet. From the 15th to the 17th century it was ruled by the Rinpungpa and then the Tsangpa, rivals of the Gelug-led powers of Ü.
