Tuʻi Kanokupolu
Tuʻi Kanokupolu is the title of the third and youngest of Tonga's royal lines, founded in the early 17th century by a son of the Tuʻi Haʻatakalaua. Its holders became the effective rulers of Tonga, while the Tuʻi Tonga kept a sacred status. In 1845 Tāufaʻāhau, the Tuʻi Kanokupolu, united the islands as King George Tupou I, and the title has since been held by the Tongan monarchy.
