Futuna (Wallis and Futuna)

Futuna is a volcanic island in western Polynesia, part of the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna, together with the nearby uninhabited island of Alofi. It is divided between two traditional kingdoms, Sigave and Alo, whose kings are still recognised. The Marist missionary Pierre Chanel was killed there in 1841 and later canonised, and the island's kings accepted a French protectorate in 1888.
