Udai Singh of Kaithal

d. 1843 · 19th century

Bhai Udai Singh was the last ruler of Kaithal, a Sikh chiefship of the Cis-Sutlej region in present-day Haryana that had accepted British protection in 1809. When he died childless in 1843, the British East India Company annexed most of the state as a lapsed territory and put down resistance by its supporters. Kaithal then became a British district headquarters.
