State
Utah Territory
Utah Territory was an organised territory of the United States created by the Compromise of 1850 from part of the lands taken from Mexico, replacing the Mormon-proposed State of Deseret. Brigham Young was its first governor until federal troops arrived in the Utah War of 1857–1858. Originally stretching from California to the Rockies, it was reduced as Nevada, Colorado and Wyoming were formed, and it became the state of Utah in 1896.
