Uttaramerur
Uttaramerur is a village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. Inscriptions on its Vaikuntha Perumal temple from the reign of the Chola king Parantaka I, dated around 919–921, set out rules for choosing the members of the village assembly's committees by drawing lots, with qualifications of property, age and learning. They are a key source for local self-government in medieval south India.
