Uttarapatha
Uttarapatha, 'the northern road', was the ancient trade route of northern India, running from the Ganges plain through Taxila and the north-west towards Bactria and Central Asia. Mentioned in Buddhist and Sanskrit texts, the name was also used for the northern regions it crossed. It is regarded as a forerunner of the Grand Trunk Road.
