Parantaka I
Parantaka I was a king of the Chola dynasty who ruled from 907 to 955. He conquered the Pandya kingdom around 920, taking the title Maduraikonda, captor of Madurai, and campaigned against Sri Lanka. Inscriptions of his reign at Uttaramerur describe in detail how village assemblies were elected. In 949 the Rashtrakuta king Krishna III defeated the Cholas at Takkolam, and the kingdom lost its northern lands.
