Val d'Aran

Also known as Aran Valley

The Val d'Aran is a valley in the central Pyrenees, in Catalonia, Spain, lying on the northern side of the main ridge and drained by the Garonne. Its people speak Aranese, a form of Occitan. Long disputed between the counts of Comminges and the Crown of Aragon, it has been part of Catalonia since the Middle Ages and enjoys special self-government.
