Valenciana mine

1760s · 18th century · Also known as La Valenciana

The Valenciana mine was a silver mine at Guanajuato in central Mexico, opened by Antonio de Obregón y Alcocer in the 1760s. By the end of the eighteenth century it was the richest silver mine in the world, producing a large share of New Spain's output, and its owners became counts of Valenciana. The mine and its baroque church are part of the Guanajuato World Heritage Site.
