Vasai
Vasai, formerly Bassein, is a town on the coast north of Mumbai in Maharashtra, India. Ceded by Bahadur Shah of the Gujarat Sultanate to the Portuguese in 1534, it became an important fortified city of Portuguese India until the Marathas captured it in 1739. The Treaty of Bassein of 1802 between the Peshwa and the British East India Company was signed there.
