Vienna Secession
The Vienna Secession was an art movement founded in 1897 by Gustav Klimt and other artists who broke away from Vienna's established academic art association. It promoted modern styles in painting, architecture and design. Accounts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire place it within the extraordinary cultural flowering of late imperial Vienna.
