Buda
Buda is the historic town on the western, hilly bank of the Danube that in 1873 merged with Pest and Óbuda to form Budapest. Its castle hill became the main royal residence of medieval Hungary from the 14th century and the seat of King Matthias Corvinus's Renaissance court. The Ottomans held Buda as the centre of a province from 1541 until the Habsburg-led siege of 1686.
