Matthias Corvinus
Matthias Corvinus, son of John Hunyadi, was elected king of Hungary in 1458. He retook Jajce from the Ottomans in 1463 and organised the Banate of Jajce, built a standing mercenary force known as the Black Army and fought George of Poděbrady, winning Moravia, Silesia and Lusatia. He took Vienna in 1485. His court at Buda was a centre of the Renaissance, with a famous library, the Bibliotheca Corviniana.
