Matthias von Jagow

c. 1480–1544 · 16th century

Matthias von Jagow was the last Catholic Bishop of Brandenburg, from 1526 to 1544. When Elector Joachim II introduced the Lutheran Reformation in Brandenburg in 1539, the bishop accepted the change and took communion in both kinds. After his death the prince-bishopric was administered by Lutheran princes of the Hohenzollern house and finally absorbed into the electorate.
