Magdeburg
Magdeburg is a city on the Elbe and the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Otto I made it a centre of his rule and raised it to an archbishopric in 968, and its town law, Magdeburg law, was adopted by hundreds of towns across central and eastern Europe. Its sack in 1631 was one of the worst massacres of the Thirty Years' War.
