Magdeburg Börde

The Magdeburg Börde is a fertile lowland in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, stretching west of Magdeburg and the Elbe. Its deep black loess soils are among the best farmland in Germany. Long a rich grain-growing region, it became a major centre of sugar-beet farming and sugar refining in the 19th century.
